Lessons About Expensive Hair Products…

I’ve been told about the importance of good hair products for women. I’ve always been on the fence about them.

Does my long hair really need $40 shampoo?

I buy my hair products from the same place I buy my milk and my garden supplies… Target. I clip coupons from the paper for Infusium brand products since they generally have between $3 and $6 savings coupons. My $9 shampoo usually costs me $3 and lasts two months.

I love Target.

I love Infusium.

Sure my hair flies on 1.2 million directions but I attribute this to follicle turf wars. My wayward cowlicked bangs are simply another gang related tragedy. My hair is at war with itself, not with my shampoo.

My ‘stylist’ is always telling me to invest in good hair products… a surprise since I get my hair cut at Supercuts for $12. Maybe she makes a commission?

She spoke with me again at my last appointment, lamenting about the necessity of good products and… I caved. In my defense, I hadn’t eaten in at least 3 hours and the shampoo smelled like a Big Mac to me. Heck, when I’m hungry, everything smells like a Big Mac.

I tearfully handed her the $43 I had been saving for the last month (supposed to be for a new pair of work pants) and anticipated results.

Um. It’s been three weeks and my hair is no softer, no shinier, and there are no less gang related follicle wars. So what have I decided?

Target. Infusium. You are my dream team. I will love you forever.

It is my understanding that MOST shampoo, conditioner, etc. are made with the same basic formula. Higher costs are most likely attributed to advertising and/or packaging.

I have been told since I was old enough to remember,
what gorgeous hair I have. I have NEVER spent more than $4 (and I cringed at that price, truth be told) for a bottle of shampoo. I generally spend under $2.

Good genes help as well. :)

I used the more expensive shampoo but ran out of money to buy it. I started using Kirkland brand and I do have to admit that my hair is noticeably drier. I think if you go from higher quality to low, you notice more of a difference. It’s easier to kill healthy hair than it would be to revive this barren wasteland that is now my hair:)~

I get a lot of compliments on my hair. Suave.
When I run out, I use, ahem…a bar of soap.

Frankly, most people shampoo too much. It sounds weird, but daily shampooing causes your hair to compensate by generating more sebum.

Oh yes, now when your stylist tries to up sell you again, you can deflect. Either “it didn’t work” or “I haven’t run out.”
