‘How are you at shaking hands and kissing babies?’ my manager asked.

‘Germaphobic and allergic to baby powder?’ I wanted to respond.

Instead, I enthusiastically replied, ‘Great! What can I do for you?’

‘We’d like you to represent us at a meet and great between government agencies and private agencies’ he said.

‘So what you’re saying is… I drew the short straw?’ I said laughing… yet completely serious.

‘Actually, we feel you have an approachable personality and would show well for our organization. People seem to naturally like you and right now, that is the face our organization needs’ he said.

Approachable personality?

Apparently I wasn’t the only liar in the room.

And this face?!? The same face that this week has decided to take a stab at adult onset acne?!? I guess that would make people feel better about themselves.

Hmph.

Of course (in this rotten market where I cannot lose my job) I enthusiastically thanked him for the opportunity, registered as an exhibitor, and considered the cost of face spackle.

Eh. Who knows? In a few weeks, maybe my face will be back to normal…

And maybe the sky will turn green.

But still… I have a job and I am oh so VERY thankful.
