Financial Cyber Stalking…

My husband is leaving for a cross-country trip.

Sure there are dangers…

Weather conditions…
Traffic Safety…
The Occasional Runaway Circus Freak…

BUT

I’m more concerned about my… CREDIT CARD SAFETY!!

He’s traveling with a good friend. Let’s see… two guys, in their 20’s, wife-free?

So. I’m planning on Financial Cyber Stalking.

Thanks to the ‘blessing’ of online banking, my husband has received many a call in the past that started with, ‘What in heaven’s name did you spend $14 on at 7-11??!?! Did you buy 18 packages of Ding Dongs? 21 Bic lighters?!?!? And why did you get gas at Chevron? According to Mapquest, a Shell was 4 blocks away and 5 cents cheaper!!!’

I can just imagine the calls during this trip…

‘Who is Dirty Dan in Tulsa? You went to a pool hall in Tennessee at 4AM? Was it necessary to stop at every hardware store in the state of Texas to buy socket wrenches?’

Of course, he has caller ID. I’m guessing he’ll be hitting the ‘Ignore’ button at an all time high.

I have been known to call my husband with the same questions:) Hope your DH has a safe trip and keeps his debit card in his wallet!

My husband is pretty responsible with money and rarely treats himself, so in situations when he does — like going out with co-workers at lunch for social reasons, going to dinner with a friend… I leave it alone because I trust his judgement, and if this is his idea of entertainment…

LOL! MANY a conversation like this at MY house as well. The worst was “You spent $300 at a strip club HOW??????????” Not sure he’ll ever live that one down.

Please don’t do this. You’re treating your husband like a child. A marriage is built on TRUST, and your Financial Cyber Stalking demonstrates you don’t trust him with money.

Imagine if the roles were reversed and he questioned you about your purchases.

“What in heaven’s name did you buy at DSW? Don’t you have ENOUGH pairs of shoes?

“Why did you buy something at Macy’s? I don’t think you need any new clothes; you should wear what’s already in your closet!”

“You spent how much at [insert trendy bar name here] with so-and-so? Why couldn’t you just buy a bottle of Yellow Tail and drink at home?”

“Why did you spend $60 on a haircut? Hair Cuttery only charges $14. Why can’t you go there? It’s good enough for me, so it should be good enough for you!”

Learn to trust your husband with money. You married him, so you clearly trust him with your heart. Ask yourself which one you seem to be valuing more.
