The cost of being sick…

I’m sure your daily surroundings this time of year are like mine…

Full of sick, coughing, sneezing, wheezing folks.

Time off from sick days results in a national loss of productiveness to the tune of 30 trillion dollars a year.

Actually, I have no idea how much how much it costs. I figured I’d use the word ‘Trillion’ as often as possible in an effort to get used to a number I can hardly fathom. Since the Federal Government is throwing around that word so much, I have to train myself to not cough up a lung every time I hear it.

What I am sure about is the fact that sick days cost me money and I can’t afford to take time off.

I’ve been told that Echinacea is a natural supplement that enhances the body’s ability to fight off infection. I bought an Echinacea tea to drink with my morning breakfast. What can I tell you about it?

It tastes so nasty I considered licking envelope adhesive just to get the flavor out of my mouth. Of course, the $1.89 box of ‘Echinacea’ might not actually be ‘Echinacea’. Using the skills I learned in my Wines of the World class, I’m able to pick out three very distinct flavors:

1) California Sage Brush.

2.) Rose Petals… with aphid guts.

3.) A recycled Barney and Friends VHS tape.

How do I know it’s a recycled ‘Barney and Friends’ VHS tape and not a recycled ‘Clueless’ VHS tape? A hint of sticky PB&J only available from the hands of preschoolers who dance to the ‘I Love You’ song.

Just like my resolve to use the stairs – which I have stuck to by the way – I will continue to drink the Echinacea. I’m still not sick so it must be doing something!

Be Good. Stay Healthy. Drink Barney.

You made me laugh. Since I just got over a cold that turned into a nasty case of bronchitis, I understand your feelings. I lost 2 weeks of work (but fortunately at Christmas vacation time so it didn’t leave my boss out to dry) and still feel like I was rode hard and put away wet.

I suggest that you try washing you hands frequently, and take lots of vitamin C and get plenty of rest to keep your immune system up.

And watch out for purple dinosaurs

Try Echinacea in pill form. You can get a huge bottle of it for a few dollars. Much easier to deal with, and no nasty taste. Drink some yummy green or black tea instead.

I would start with eating more veggies and work my way up from there:) Good luck with the raspy tea!
