Tax Time Organization
It’s that time of year again. The time of year everyone hates… no, not the American Idol auditions – though I really hate those too… it’s…
tax time.
I dread it…and not because I have to pay taxes.
I used to be obsessively organized. I filed every single bill alphabetically, numerically…and also color coordinated.
Last year, my tax guy actually asked me to be a little less organized. My 14 page spreadsheets citing applicable tax laws confused him.
This year, thanks to my work schedule, I tiredly tore out the payment slips, scribbled my name on a check to pay them, and stuffed the important bits in a very, very secure place for the last four months…
Under the coffee table.
It seemed like a good idea until I had to sort it over the weekend. Once I pulled the pile out, I realized the amazing ability of our coffee table to hide 4 solid feet of paper.
Who knew it was so out of control?!?!?
I stole $35 from the food budget (sorry hon, whole wheat pasta noodles, frozen turkey, and taco shells this week?) and bought a file cabinet.
Four hours and two Tylenol Arthritis to cure the headaches later, I was sorted and ready for tax time.
Are You?
Don’t forget to write off:
Charity Donations…
Car Registration…
Mortgage Interest…
School Expenses (including loan interest, tuition, books)…
Certain Medical Expenses…
Neighborhood children you claim as dependents…
On another note, a hearty thanks to all the readers who gave fabulous advice on where to find discounted clothing. I’m slowly setting aside money and I’ll try out those ideas!

I just got my tax organizer from our accountant so I have a bit of organizing to do myself:)~ Good luck! I hope you get lots of money and not an IOU.
