Financially… I’m like an obese person giving diet advice.
… a diabetic in love with candy.
…a nutter-butter craver with a peanut allergy.
… or that’s what it feels like sometimes. I want to yell… ‘I’M SUCH A FAILURE!! DON’T LISTEN TO A WORD I SAY!!’
But I’ve got to realize that we all have setbacks so I’ll share mine with you.
I had just cashed my ‘Big Box Store’ check and recklessly whispered to my husband the sexiest words known to an adult male between the ages of 17 and 95… ‘Would you like to buy a Wii?’
My husband has been talking about the Wii for about a year now. Fortunately, the fact that it’s only available when the moon turns blue on the 47th Sunday after Passover has made it conveniently easy to avoid. Amazon.com had hundreds of units… for about 15 minutes before they sold out.
Thanks to my constant diabolical scheming and my close and personal relationship with Target Stores… I know their shipment schedule… even though I don’t work there.
I swear I’m not a stalker… I just… oh forget it… I hide in the bushes with binoculars and scope out the goods.
I bought one.
I’ve felt bad about it for the last few days but somehow I get over it when my husband looks at me with the admiration of a man who has just witnessed me birth his first child… and I didn’t even have to get an epidural!
This money could have been far better spent but…
Is it OK to cheat on very rare occasions?
Yes. I’m a failure. I trip. I fall.
Crap.
Please don’t give up on me.

Don’t forget that you are saving and being frugal so you have the freedom to enjoy your life. If you choose to reward yourself once in a while, then it is ok. Just don’t go crazy buying a ton of those games for $50/each! Being smart about your money lets you enjoy some of the finer things in life at times (like the Wii!).
Play a few times and see how much fun you have. That is worth the cost right there! have fun…

Think of it as cheap/free gym membership if you get the Wii fit!

I’m with ya there, well sort of. My wife and I have been looking at Wiis (boy that sounds so dirty, ya think such a kid friendly company like Nintendo would have thought more about the possible sexual twists to their products name…).
I had never played one till Christmas this year when my horribly bad at managing money in laws bought one for their kids. I have to say I really enjoy playing it and have been looking at buying one but I say “almost with ya” because I havent yet. I feel bad about looking though
and I really want one!

There is value in not hearing DH whine about a Wii. “Can we get a Wii…oh I wish we had a Wii…if you weren’t such a budget Nazi we would have a Wii by now.”
You bought the Wii, and hopefully you also bought a few months of peace and quiet. Until the next thing comes along. That’s worth something!
