Finding a money program that works for you

The financial counseling class I’ve been taking is a Dave Ramsey class. I attend once weekly and the total length is 13 weeks. In March, I’m taking it again.

But let me be clear, I don’t think there is a magic program.

No one has the ability to change your life or your attitude…

Except you.

This particular program works for me because it prompts me to make lifestyle choices rather than use a band-aid temporary fix like so many of those debt counseling companies. The program also encourages community involvement and accountability.

I’m sure there are better programs and I’m sure there are better methods but my point is simple, find a program that works for you. Don’t rely solely on yourself.

Just as alcoholics go to AA…

I go to financial class to set a pattern and to continue toward my goal.

My recommendations? Find a program that:

Encourages small steps. Nothing will make you quit faster than the feeling that a goal is too large.

Requires accountability. Face to face time with someone who isn’t afraid to call you to the carpet about your finances is a necessity.

Forces you to face your goals often. I am required to make my finances a daily consideration.

I might have to look into that. I think they’re giving those classes at my church. Wish me luck:)

There’s a Dave Ramsey class being offered in January here. I really would like to take it.
