    Exercising when time is tight

Thanks to my new work schedule, I don’t have time to exercise… not that I exercised much in the first place… but I like to try.
My job at the Big Box Store keeps me moving but I started to feel lethargic while sitting at my Company X desk. So…I decided to take the stairs [...]

    Learning to say no

I’m bad at a lot of things.
I’m bad at spending money (I like the smell of new things!)…
bad at painting my nails red (with the amount I get all over my fingers, they look more bloody than manicured)…
bad at playing any sort of sports (they require athleticism – which I have none)…
    But I’ve discovered yet [...]

    Cutting Costs

My city uses reclaimed sewer water that tastes like a cross between Dial soap and dirty socks. Sure there was a risk that I’d come down with communicable diseases from improperly washed dishware…

    Let’s find something to celebrate…

Thanks to a recent subsity called ‘My Brother Bought Me Tickets to Disneyland’ – funded by… my brother – I was able to spend some time at the ‘Happiest Place on Earth’ over the weekend.
We laughed, we screamed, and we played for 12 hours straight.
On the way home, I couldn’t help but take [...]

Photo ID cards… let’s ban them.

First off, my computer is in the middle of it’s own menopausal hot flash – yeah, she’s getting up there in age – and has decided not to let me use Word anymore so I’m writing this blog off some ghetto version of notebook or scratch pad or scrap paper. Something like that. [...]

An interesting way to visualize debt.

I’ve decided to share my debt payment progress with you in a different way. I’m going to start showing photos of things I actually own – because in reality, if I owe money on it… I don’t own it.
I wanted to show myself how far I’ve come and I thought I’d share it with [...]

Listening to the sage financial advice of my grandmother…

My grandmother has always told me to invest in well made items and to never buy things on the cheap because, in the end, they will be far more expensive.
    Well…
I decided to color my hair.
I should just let the story end there but for my grandmother’s sake, I’ll finish.
As a holiday treat to myself, I [...]

    Let’s talk about Public Transportation

We’ve all had those awesome jobs that provide us with fabulous perks.
Um. Hello? I worked at The Gap just for the 50% discount on clothing.
On a side note, do military employees get discounts on tanks?
    No?
Just as well I guess. Those things are hell to parallel park.
Let’s just say, I always take advantage [...]

    Surviving Company Christmas Parties…

I was able to attend my husband’s company Christmas party this weekend.
    An open bar Christmas party.
Over the years as a responsible designated driver (i.e. generally the only sober person at this event each year), I’ve discovered my own method for reading the intoxication level of my fellow patrons.
Perhaps the nation’s Highway Patrol should take notes.
    I [...]

Negotiating salary in a bad economy… should you do it?

    Wait. What?
    Salary?
Do you know what that means?!?!?
    I GOT A JOB!
My conference call with ‘Company X’ went very well. After HR management explained the benefits, I was told to prepare myself for a lower than expected salary.
Then she read the number…which was significantly more than I had hoped.
    Naturally, I acted completely un-phased [...]
